Barney, December 1997

Barney is a 3 1/2 year old male black Labrador who has not had an easy life. His owner didn't have enough room or food for him, so he was given up to Callie Meredith of Ohio who runs a small rescue. Before he could go to a new home, he needed heartworm treatment. Callie and LABMED worked together to fund Barney's treatment. Heartworms are easy to prevent, but difficult to treat. While waiting for the heartworms to clear out of his system Barney must stay calm and quiet for 4 weeks or longer, but once his treatment is over, he'll be ready to give all his love to a new family.

Update, February 1998: Barney's poor body was so filled with worms he required two full rounds of heartworm treatment, but he is recovering well and enjoying life in his new home. His new family loves him dearly, and are considering the adoption of another rescue Labrador!
