Success Stories
Justin, March, 2001
Justin is a small, three year old, male, black Labrador Retriever who was
found lying in a drainage ditch in Marion, TX. Justin's rescuers luckily
discovered him shortly after the accident that caused his injuries because
at the time they found him, Justin was going into shock. His rescuers
transported him immediately to a veterinarian, where he was treated for
shock and his injuries were assessed. It was there that they discovered that
Justin had a severely broken left front leg. Unfortunately, it was not the
type of break that could simply be immobilized for healing. Justin would
have to have surgery to pull the bones back into alignment. Justin's
temperament was such that his rescuers decided to go ahead with the surgery
to have the leg repaired and then try to place him in a good home.
Justin underwent the first surgery only to have X-rays reveal that the
bones had again slipped out of place and a second surgery would be
necessary. The second surgery held and Justin was on his way to good health.
Justin's rescuers, however, now faced the task of paying for the
double surgeries. They did some research, discovered LABMED, and applied
for help to fund the fracture repair.
LABMED was happy to lend a hand and at last communication, Justin was
headed to the San Antonio Animal Shelter where the shelter workers already
had several families interested in adopting him.
