Success Stories
Kismet, March 2002
This lucky little black male puppy was rescued from the Sacramento, CA animal control shelter when he
was approximately 14 weeks old. Sadly, he was only able to enjoy his wonderful new home for a few days before he became quite ill with parvo virus. Rushed to a vet for emergency care, Kismet was
thought to have a good chance for survival with treatment, including IV fluids, medications and intensive nursing care.
The cost of providing this extensive treatment was beyond the financial means of Kismet's new owner,
however. But she contacted the new HOPES rescue group in her area who in turn referred her to LABMED. A call from LABMED to the treating vet confirmed that Kismet had a good chance for recovery. The
pup was responding well to treatment, particularly to one particular drug for vomiting control, and seemed to be feeling better already.
LABMED voted to partially fund Kismet's treatment, with the rest of the funding provided by HOPES and Kismet's new owner. We were delighted to hear that Kismet had made a full recovery. Now he can
get on with the serious puppy business of romping and playing and getting into trouble!
