Success Stories
Dakota, February 1998
No one knows how old this yellow boy is (estimate is 6 to 8 years), or what his life was like before
he was surrendered to a California shelter with an injured left rear hock. Unfortunately for Dakota, his advanced age and injury meant he wasn't put up for adoption, but scheduled for euthanasia
instead. The newly formed Southern California Lab Rescue stepped in after his time was up at the shelter. Veterinarians who examined
Dakota discovered the joint had been crushed due to unknown trauma, embedding bone chips in the joint and causing him to lose use of his leg. Surgery was recommended to remove the bone chips and
reconstruct Dakota's hock with pins, after which he would need several weeks of crate rest to heal.
With LABMED's help, Dakota received the surgery he needed to repair his hock. And thanks to Southern California Lab Rescue, Dakota is happily recuperating with his loving new family.
