Success Stories

Lucy, March, 2000

Lucy Lucy had been wandering for at least three weeks in cold March weather near Decatur, Illinois, when a kindly rescuer took her in. Lucy was sweet-tempered and well-trained; obviously she had once belonged to someone, but attempts to find her owner were fruitless. Her rescuer took her to the vet and Lucy was found to be heartworm-positive. It was also thought that Lucy had been used for breeding; it appeared she'd had several litters of puppies.

Lucy The rescuer contacted LABMED and we were happy to help. Lucy's new vet helped, too, by offering a rescue discount to help cover the cost of the treatment. Lucy has had her treatment and recovered fully. Her rescuer and family fell so in love with her that they decided to adopt her and she is now enjoying life with an active, loving family. They think Lucy might make a wonderful therapy dog and are looking into training her for this work.
