Success Stories

Mama, December, 1999

Mama Mama was in trouble. This 4 year old black Lab was VERY pregnant, but this wasn't her only problem. Someone tied her to the door of the local shelter near Transfer, PA, so Mama was also homeless.

Mama successfully delivered 10 healthy puppies six days after she was tied to the door of the shelter. During this time, she tested positive for heartworm. She had to wait till the puppies were weaned before she could start treatment. Heartworm treatment isn't cheap; this is where LABMED was able to step in to help this new mother of ten.

Mama had her first heartworm treatment, but she had a bad reaction and became sick shortly after the treatment. A midnight run to the emergency vet stabilized her condition, and her prognosis remained good.

After six weeks of rest, Mama is well. All of her ten pups have been placed, too. With the help of a good Samaritan and LABMED, 11 Labradors truly have a chance for a second retrieve!
