Success Stories

Nelson, August 2001

Nelson Nelson is a four year old black male Lab mix who unfortunately lost his family. His owners were in the midst of a divorce, their house was for sale, and neither of the owners could keep Nelson in their new housing.

Nelson was turned over to Lab rescue volunteers in Richmond, VA. This exceptionally friendly, playful and affectionate dog tested positive for heartworm. The vet confirmed that Nelson had not exhibited any signs of coughing or other poor health and gave him a good to excellent prognosis, although cautioning that you just never know with heartworm treatment how an individual dog will react. The rescue workers found a vet to provide a pro bono neuter for Nelson, but they needed help in funding the heartworm treatment. LABMED was happy to be able to fund this part of Nelson's rehabilitation.

Nelson came through his heartworm treatment with flying colors and is hoping to find a new family to love in the very near future.
